This tour operates on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and can be booked through our website.All entrance fees are included in this rate, and departure is from Galway Cathedral at 0930 and return 1830.
Four Castles of Connemara in one day with breathing taking scenic as part of the Wild Atlantic Way, Explore around Aughanure Castle and Kylemore Abbey, with exciting views of Clifden Castle and Ballinahinch Castle of the lake.
Have your photo taken on the famous Quiet man bridge, from 1950 movie of the same name. Hear stories of the Connemara Giant & Connemara Green Marble which has connections to our very own Colleen – Colleen Irish Travel.
You will have time to explore and free time in Clifden and chat with the locals, as you travel through the valleys and view the turf bogs.
Aughnanure castle
Situated just a short distance from Oughterard Village. Built beside and at some positions straddling a small river the Drimneen. A tower house and unique double bawn and bastions with dry harbour. There is a well known tale that there was once a trap door where unwelcome guests could be dropped in the river underneath. In recent years the castles has been restored by the Office of Public Works.
Kylemore Abbey
You have time to explore the famous home of the Benedictine sisters of Kylemore Abbey and Victoria walled gardens. The splendor 6 arces of gardens as divided by mountain streams. A little stroll from the Abbey you will see the neo-Gothic church, known as a ‘Cathedral in Miniature’. Owner of Colleen Travel, Colleen was a student when Kylemore was well known internationally school for girls. Taste the freshly baked scone (free).
Clifden & Sky Road
Our journeys takes us to the capital of Connemara via the beautiful sky road, (weather permitting) with view of Clifden Castle, and many islands dotted around the coast of Clifden. You will have time to explore the colourful town where you can enjoy pint with the locals.
Grace O’Malley / Ballinahinch
At the age of 15, Grace had married the heir of the Connemara O’Flaherty clan (family), they had 2 sons & daughter. Her husband Donal built a small castle on Ballynahinch lake. After Donal passing Grace became the head of the clan O’Flaherty. Grace was a well known as the Pirate Queen and she is steeped in history and legend, Her life was full of adventure Granuaile lived to a ripe old age.
